Frequently asked questions
Tyre questions, answered straight.
The questions Camden drivers ask us most, with short, direct answers. Anything else, call 020 7485 4067.
Do I need to book, or can I just turn up?
You can drive in any time we're open and most jobs are done while you wait. If you need a particular tyre size or want a set time, book online or call 020 7485 4067 first. That way we can check your size is in stock and have it ready when you arrive.
What are your opening hours?
We're open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. That's seven days a week at 166 Royal College St, London NW1 0SP. Bank holiday hours can differ, so call 020 7485 4067 if you're coming on a bank holiday.
Where are you and how do I get there?
We're at 166 Royal College St, London NW1 0SP, in Camden, near Camden Road Overground station and a short walk from Camden Town tube. Our Google Maps plus code is GVR6+HV London. Tap Get directions on our contact page to open the route in Google Maps.
How much does a tyre cost?
It depends on the tyre size, whether you want part-worn or new and, for new tyres, the brand. Tell us the size printed on your tyre sidewall, such as 205/55 R16, by phone, WhatsApp or the booking form and we'll give you a clear price for the tyre fitted before any work starts.
Do you sell part-worn tyres?
Yes. Part-worn tyres are one of the main things we do. They're legal used tyres that must have at least 2mm of tread, no structural damage and a PART-WORN mark on the sidewall. We check every one before fitting and can show you the tread depth. Call with your size to check stock.
Can you repair a puncture instead of replacing the tyre?
Often, yes. If the hole is in the central part of the tread and no more than 6mm across, a car tyre can normally be repaired under British Standard BS AU 159. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder, or a tyre that has been driven flat, means it has to be replaced. We'll show you which applies.
Is it safe to drive on a flat tyre?
No. Driving on a flat or very soft tyre destroys the inside of the sidewall, often making it unrepairable, and can damage the wheel. The car also steers and brakes badly. Stop somewhere safe, fit the spare or use your repair kit, then come to us or call 020 7485 4067 for advice.
What is the legal minimum tread depth in the UK?
For cars, the legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, all the way round the tyre. Driving on tyres below that can mean a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for each illegal tyre. Many drivers replace at around 3mm for better wet grip.
How do I find my tyre size?
Look on the sidewall of the tyre for a code like 205/55 R16 91V. 205 is the width in millimetres, 55 the sidewall height as a percentage, R16 the wheel size in inches, 91 the load index and V the speed rating. It's also in your handbook and often on the driver's door frame.
How long does it take to fit a tyre?
Most tyre jobs are done while you wait. How long depends on how many tyres you need, whether your size is in stock and how busy we are when you arrive. Call 020 7485 4067 before you set off and we'll tell you honestly how long you're likely to wait.
What payment methods do you accept?
We take credit cards, debit cards and contactless payments, including mobile pay such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. You pay when the work is finished and you're happy with it. If you'd like to check anything about payment before you come in, call us on 020 7485 4067.
Are you open on Sundays?
Yes. We're open on Sundays from 10am to 4pm, so you can get a puncture fixed or a tyre replaced at the weekend without waiting until Monday. On Saturdays we're open 9am to 6pm. Check the live opening status at the top of our website before you set off.
