Alloy wheel and tyre close up, ready for a puncture check

Can every puncture be repaired?

No. Under British Standard BS AU 159, a car tyre can only be repaired if the damage is in the central part of the tread (roughly the middle three-quarters of its width) and no more than 6mm across. Damage to the shoulder or sidewall, or a tyre that has been driven while flat, means the tyre has to be replaced.

Why choose us

What you get

  • Cheaper than a new tyre

If the damage is in the repairable area, a repair saves you buying a tyre.

  • Done while you wait

Most punctures are found and fixed while you wait - no need to leave the car.

  • Checked inside and out

We take the tyre off the wheel to check the inside. A plug pushed in from outside isn't a proper repair.

  • Honest call

If it can't be repaired safely, we show you why and offer part-worn or new options.

The process

How puncture repairs works

  1. Step 1: Get here safely

If the tyre is flat, fit your spare or use your repair kit. Driving on a flat can wreck the tyre and the wheel.

  2. Step 2: Find the leak

We find the cause - a nail or screw, a damaged valve, or a leak where the tyre meets the rim.

  3. Step 3: Inspect the tyre

Tyre off the wheel, inside checked for hidden damage, size and position of the hole measured.

  4. Step 4: Repair or replace

Repaired if it's within the safe limits. If not, we'll show you and quote a replacement.

  5. Step 5: Refit and check

Refitted, balanced and inflated to the right pressure before you drive off.

FAQs

Puncture repairs: your questions answered

Can't see your question? Call 020 7485 4067 or see all our tyre FAQs.

Can I drive on a flat tyre?

No. Driving on a flat or very soft tyre damages the inside of the sidewall, often beyond repair, and can damage the wheel too. It also makes the car harder to steer and stop. Pull over safely, fit the spare or use your repair kit, then drive gently to us or give us a call.

What causes a slow puncture?

The usual causes are a nail or screw in the tread, a worn or damaged valve, or corrosion where the tyre seals against the wheel rim. Dents in the rim from potholes and kerbs can cause slow leaks too. We find the actual cause first, so you don't pay for the wrong fix.

Can you repair a run-flat tyre?

Some tyre makers don't approve repairs to run-flat tyres at all, and others only allow them in limited cases, especially if the tyre has been driven without air. Bring it in and we'll check the tyre and the manufacturer's guidance before doing anything, then tell you whether a repair or replacement is right.
