Tyre fitting & balancing in Camden

Tyre fitting means taking the old tyre off your wheel, fitting the replacement, checking the valve, balancing the wheel and setting the pressure. At Camden Tyres Services we do it while you wait at 166 Royal College Street, NW1, seven days a week. Call ahead with your tyre size and we'll check stock.

What is wheel balancing?

Wheel balancing evens out the weight of a tyre and wheel so they spin smoothly. The wheel is spun on a balancing machine and small weights are added to the rim where needed. Without it you can feel vibration through the steering wheel or seat at speed, and the tyre and suspension wear faster.

FAQs

Tyre fitting & balancing: your questions answered

How long does tyre fitting take?

A straightforward tyre change is usually done while you wait. How long depends on how many tyres you need, whether your size is in stock and how busy we are when you arrive. Call 020 7485 4067 before you set off and we'll give you an honest idea of the wait.

Why do my wheels need balancing after new tyres?

No tyre and wheel are perfectly even in weight. Balancing finds the heavy spots and corrects them with small weights, so the wheel spins smoothly. Skipping it can cause vibration through the steering wheel, uneven tyre wear and extra strain on wheel bearings and suspension.

What tyre pressure should I use?

Use the pressures your car maker recommends, not the maximum printed on the tyre. You'll find them in the handbook, on a sticker inside the driver's door frame or inside the fuel filler flap. Pressures are often higher for a fully loaded car. Check them when the tyres are cold.
